Recommendation: 👍👍👍👍 - (Out of 5 👍)

Synopsis:

Before 'The Fall', Harlow was part of a special ops shifter division in the Marines with her twin sister Brielle, close friend Axel and lover Aodh. That was until Harlow was forced to kill when Aodh turned on his team during a mission.

Aodh has spent the past fifteen years trapped in the basement of a castle in the Domincary realm. Prisoner to the serial killer witch his special ops team was hunting down. At first, Aodh thought his friends would save him but after fifteen years he has become bitter and angry he was left for dead. When the Fae attacked the castle, a breach in the force field containing him allowed him to escape his.

Unfortunately, things were not as they had seemed for Aodh and his friends. Now that they are back together they have the opportunity to set things right and get revenge against the evil witch that fooled them all.

I was provided an Advanced Reader Copy by NetGalley and the Publisher, KR Press LLC, for an honest review.

In the first installment of the series 'Ancients Rising' we met Star and her misfit group of friends, this included Harlow, Brielle, and Axel. I fell hard for the entire group and was excited to finally get Harlow's story. This close knit group are more than friends; they are a family. All of them grew up together in a commune with their peace loving hippie parents. Counter to their parents way of life, each of them became a fierce warrior.

Since a group of rogue dragons attacked the major cities of the world in an attempt to take out humans, creating a time known as 'The Fall', the world has become a very different place. In New Orleans, Harlow and her friends have created a fair society where everyone can contribute while feeling safe. Harlow's past experience in the military allows her to take on the role of 'protector' for the territory and it's citizens. Aodh has also suffered greatly the past fifteen years. He missed the horrific battle, the struggle to survive, and the reinvention of society but he lived a half life, at times in an out of a dreamlike state, being drained of his energy, and under the belief he had been abandoned by his friends. I am happy both Harlow were able to reconnect and overcome their past. With all the struggles they have endured it is nice they get their happily ever after.
