This story destroyed me and then gave me hope. I worried that I would struggle with the main character's loss and the manner in which it happened as I have had the same life experiences, but the way he was able to grow and move on was inspiring. Both Brooks and Rory are wonderful, amazing, and strong people. The sacrifices they are willing to make for others, completely selfless.
'Don't die with me, Brooks. I need you to find that happy every after.'
Brooks never intended to keep the promise he made to his dying wife Amara, a promise to find love again. A chance encounter on the anniversary of Amara's death would be the beginning of the next stage in Brooks Wilder's life. He never intended to see his one night stand again but she turns out to be best friends with his brother's partner and is constantly at the resort.
Rory tries to give Brooks Wilder a wide berth. He never seems to be happy or in a good mood. When she unexpectedly finds herself the guardian of her two young nieces, she realizes she doesn't have enough room in her tiny apartment for three individuals and agrees to move in to one of Brooks rental houses, the one right next door to his own house.
Brooks finds himself pulled toward Rory and her two new charges. He can't deny that there is something between the two of them. Rory is able to heal the wounds Amara has left on Brooks life and Brooks. It is amazing to see two deserving individuals able to rely on one another to move forward after incredible tragedy.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
